5 Tips For Preparing For An Open House

Available to the Highest Bidder

It’s the end of an era! It’s time to sell your home, and that means there’s lots to do before you hand over the keys. Open houses are the main way to showcase your humble abode, but don’t just assume that people will love what they see. Here are a few tips to help you land that sale and make sure your place goes to the right person.

1. Declutter Your Space

It’s easy to let clutter pile up at home, but when you have newcomers wandering around, the last thing you want is magazines on the kitchen table or laundry piled on the bed. Remember: eye appeal is buy appeal, so the cleaner your space looks, the more excited potential buyers will be.

2. Provide Some Refreshments

Never underestimate the power of a good chocolate chip cookie! Even a pitcher of ice water on a warm day shows that you’re thinking about your buyers’ comfort, and that little gesture can make all the difference. You don’t need to put out a whole spread, but even the bare minimum can welcome more people.

3. Ensure You Have Accurate Photos

If you’ve ever gone house-hunting, you know the upset of inaccurate photos. Some people angle their pictures to make rooms look bigger. Others avoid messy areas. The thing is, buyers take full tours of your home, so even if the photo didn’t show anything, they’ll see the undesirable bits.

4. Pay Attention to Detail

They say the devil’s in the details, and that’s especially true when selling your home. Clean those mirrors. Vacuum the carpet. Spray a little air freshener. Those small details create a much larger picture, and you want people excited about what they’re stepping into!

5. Boost Curb Appeal

Would-be customers see the exterior first, so it’s always better to have freshly cut grass and colorful flowers outside. Even the cooler months warrant a little TLC: shovel the walk and rake the leaves before anyone comes by.
