On The Road Again: 5 Tips That Make Moving A Breeze

Don’t Tear Out Your Hair

Moving is stressful enough without worrying where the remote went or not having a change of clean clothes. Though it seems like the most tedious thing you’ll ever do, moving is actually a breeze when you plan ahead and work smart, not hard. Let’s dive into a few tips that make your move much easier.

1. Plan Early

You’d be surprised by just how many things pop up during a move. You need to schedule moving trucks. You’ll need to change your address and let utility companies know you’re about to hit the road. Your bank will need to know, too. Make a list of everything you need to get done and tick off those boxes as you go.

2. Start Decluttering

The last thing you need during a move is excessive clutter. Work on it before the moving van even shows up! Recycle those old magazines, do your laundry, and toss away any expired pantry items. The less you have to pack, the better.

3. Have a Box of Essentials

You could have everything planned to a tee, but when you reach the odds and ends, it’s easier to toss everything in a box. Miscellaneous items often get overlooked by the end ‘cause we’re too tired to deal with them—but some of those items are actually important! Make a list of what you’ll need when you reach your new place and pack that stuff separately.

4. Pack Wisely

While you’ll need alcohol boxes and packing peanuts, you can also use everyday items to pack smarter! Place things in a laundry basket. Wrap delicate items in your own towels. You’ll knock off two birds with one stone.

5. Keep a Change of Clothes

Trust us—you don’t want to get caught without clean clothes. We’re often so preoccupied with packing that we forget about ourselves, and that means filthy clothing we can’t replace…unless you keep an outfit outside of your boxes! Keep a few spare items tucked away in an overnight bag.
